I want to open this week’s update with a big thank you to those that have and are continuing to serve in our armed services. Your commitment to our nation and our communities is greatly appreciated not only as we honor and mourn those that were lost in the line of duty on Memorial Day, but continuously everyday. Thank You!
I also want to commend the students and the staff at Keene High School for their response to last week’s emergency evacuation that led to a shift to remote learning for the rest of the week. Overall, everyone did a fantastic job not only during the event that took place, but also in the continuation of the learning process after. Everything looks to be in order for a full return to the building tomorrow, June 1st!
On that same line, it would be a gross oversight if I didn’t also recognize some other groups of people that were heavily involved during that event and the aftermath. The Keene School District Building and Grounds Division, Keene Fire Department, Keene Police Department, Keene Public Works, Eversource and the staff from the SAU 29 central office all should be commended as well. Everyone played their role admirably and kept order to the situation that enabled folks to assess the issue, gather critical information so that informed decisions were made. Job Well Done!
Things continue to move in the right direction with regard to transmission rates in our state and our county. There are a number of factors that are contributing to this progress and hopefully that will continue as we get closer and closer to being out of the “red” in all three metrics that are most widely recognized in New Hampshire for our county. We have dropped into the “yellow” range for both the Harvard Global Health and the CDC measures as of yesterday and if the current trend holds true this week, we’ll be in the “yellow” for the NHDHHS metric as well by the weekend.
Speaking of getting closer and closer, it won’t be long before students return for next school year on September 1st. For a quick and brief review:
At the end of the 2019-2020 school year, all of our schools were mandated to deliver remote instruction for ALL of our students at the onset of the pandemic. After school activities were canceled or only offered remotely as well. We canceled the April break in order to complete the school year earlier and avoided needing to make up days lost to snow days.
Throughout the 2020-2021 school year, we navigated and offered both onsite and remote instruction for our students. We shifted for a period of time during which the transmission rates were highest to fully remote. Once back onsite, we shifted again eventually bringing all students that wanted to be onsite back into the buildings. After school activities were offered throughout the school year. We utilized “Blizzard Bags” that have eliminated the need to add any additional days to the end of the school year. At no point have we had a confirmed transmission of COVID-19 in any of our buildings.
That said, It is our expectation that we will be fully onsite and in-person for ALL of our students when we open the 2021-2022 school year. As we plan for what that will look like exactly, it will be helpful if you can take a few moments to share anything specific you would like us to consider. Please use this linked Stakeholder Feedback Form to submit your feedback for us to review before Friday, June 4th. We will commit to doing our best to address as many areas from that input as we can, but honestly, I simply can not guarantee that we will address all of them in our initial plan. It is our intent to have a draft plan in place for next school year within the next couple of weeks which we will again seek your feedback. Thank you in advance for your input.

COVID-19 Data: Providing all of the COVID-19 data that we have been tracking since the onset of the pandemic back in March, 2020.
Confirmed COVID-19 Positives that our school personnel are aware of from the beginning of school year 2020-2021 (numbers from 1-4 will be suppressed to help protect individual privacy). These are aggregated so that it does not identify either student or staff and provided in both the most recent weekly totals as well as the totals for the entire school year.
E-Flyer Distribution Program: As a reminder, there are many flyers that our schools are asked to send home throughout the school year. We also post these flyers on our website and it can be found by going to this E-Flyer Distribution Program embedded link.
Last Day for Students Early Release Schedule
Meals: Every student in SAU 29 and all children 18 and under are eligible for free meals through June 2021. Regardless of learning plan, meals for all students are free at this time. If students are attending in-person they may receive free meals during their regular lunch period and will not be eligible for remote meals.
ONLY fully remote students and students that do not attend a public school will be entitled to pick up remote meals curbside as outlined below.
- Students attending school fully remote with 5 remote days per week will receive 5 days’ worth of meals available for Wednesday pick-up.
- Students not enrolled in public school may receive 5 days’ worth of meals available for Wednesday pick-up.
Please do not sign up under a parent name, use your student’s name only.

Please submit your order for the following week's meals no later than 7:00am Friday, June 4th. You will receive an email confirmation after placing your order. This form is to order meals for remote pick up on Wednesday, June 9th.

Screening Assessment: Please continue to complete the screening assessment each school day. This allows our school nurses to continue to monitor and provide support with regard to the health of the school community. Please note that we are not requesting that this be done on the weekends, holidays or breaks, only on days that school would typically be in session.
Special Education: The needs of students with disabilities are enormously important. As always, your first point of contact is your child’s special education teacher or building principal. Please reach out to them anytime and share your thoughts. You may also contact the Student Services Offices at SAU 29 at 357-9001 extension 230 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please if you have not already picked up your student’s Chromebook for the 1:1 program we need you to print and sign the agreement HERE .
We can not release the Chromebook to your student until we get a signed agreement. Please send the agreement in with your student.
Parents and Students, Chromebooks should be used for your school work only. Please do not eat while using your school issued Chromebook. We are experiencing high volumes of damaged Chromebooks due to spills. Please make sure you fill in the online registration for your students. It is important to have all the correct information in place.
